There was a time when ear piercings were the most common form of piercing; today, belly rings seem to have risen in popularity for women. However, how socially acceptable is it for a woman to display both her belly and a navel piercing in public?
Women today are more sexually liberated and enjoy more freedom than their predecessors – and women celebrities often help to bring a fashion trend into public and social acceptance. Belly rings are flaunted not just by female celebrities such as Madonna, Beyonce and Brittney Spears but British princesses too (Princess Zara, Queen Elizabeth II’s grandaughter sports a navel piercing).
And why do women get a belly ring? Some reasons include:

- it’s sexy
- it’s beautiful
- its’ sensual
- it’s daring
- it’s “me”.
Navel piercings are the longest healing type of piercing, so be sure to choose a professional, experienced and hygienic body piercer to minimize medical complications (I speak from experience here). But having taken all that into account, there is no reason for belly rings to be socially acceptable for women. And when was the last time you saw a man sporting a sexy belly ring
