There was once a time that tattoos were a predominately male issue – a mark of drunken sailors, convicts and gangs; women who dared to show a tattoo were not viewed favorably and were often shunned. However, today, the stigma that used to be attached to tattoos seems to be changing, certainly in the U.S. and in other parts of the world.
Female tattoos don’t have to brash and bold – many women sport delicate, intricate designs – and often in intimate places too! Women may get a tattoo for several reasons, but the number one reason I found cited on many web sites in the course of my research for the article which follows at the end of this blog post, was to get over the break up of a husband or a boyfriend!
Some women stop at one tattoo, others get another; whatever the reasons for women getting tattoos, consider the implications of social acceptance in both the workplace and with friends and family, for example, what kind of job do you do and how will your employer view the tattoo? Will grandma/mom have a heart attack if you show up with a tattoo at the next family dinner?
There are legal implications too in many states for the age at which you get a tattoo. Also, choose a tattooist wisely, to avoid any health implications afterwards.
