Women are statistically more vulnerable than men, with regard to abuse, violence, poverty and health issues – although that is not to say that men suffer hardships too.  Women however make up 70% of the world’s poor, according to statistics provided by the web site, Just Give.  In addition, two thirds of these women are unable to read and write.  If you are a woman and are reading this, you may not appreciate how ‘lucky’ you are.

According to statistics provided by the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, one in six women are sexually assaulted at some point in their lives; young women at college are more at risk than any other group.  Many women suffer from the resulting conditions of war, uncertain as to their future, and at risk of abuse, rape and financial hardship.

Fortunately, there are many charities which help women in a wide array of differing circumstances; however, without help, these charities would not survive.  If you consider yourself in a more fortunate position than many women in the world, please consider reading:
