A new study by the Women’s Health Initiative indicates that women who eat a diet high in fats have a 44 percent greater risk of a stroke than women who eat less fats; women probably know (if even we don’t always want to acknowledge it!) that those burgers and fries on a regular basis are not doing us much good – not just on the waistline but inside the body too. That’s not to say that all fats are ‘bad’; the worse fat offenders are the trans fats. Unfortunately, these are the types of fats that a lot of women love the most – dough nuts, French fries, cookies and fast food are some of the culprits.
Healthier fats include fish, nuts, seeds and vegetable oils – maybe not as appealing as that chocolate creme dough nut – but in the long run, it is kinder to your body and reduces the risk of a stroke
The study was carried out by the Women’s Health Initiative and was discussed at the American Stroke Association conference in San Antonio on Wednesday February 24th 2010.
