The 82nd annual academy awards takes place tomorrow, Sunday March 7th 2010; as usual, the predictions have been floating around in the past few weeks about the most likely Oscar winners. Girly Chat takes a specific look at the female stars who are on short list of Oscar nominations at the 82nd annual academy awards:
-
Best Director Nomination – Kathleen Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) – Kathleen Bigelow goes head to head with ex-husband James Cameron (Avatar) for the Best Director Oscar; there is much talk about both movies, The Hurt Locker and Avatar, but if Kathleen Bigelow were to win Best Director she would be the first female director to do so.
- Best Actress Nominations- will it be Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side) or Meryl Streep (Julie and Julia)? These two actresses are apparently the hot favorites to win the Best Actress Oscar for 2010 and both have personal reasons for winning. Sandra Bullock is a first time Oscar nominee and Meryl Streep hasn’t won an Oscar in 26 years.
- Best Supporting Actress Nominations – actresses on the short list for best supporting actress include established actresses such as Penelope Cruz (Nine), Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air) and Maggie Gyllenhall (Crazy Heart). But perhaps the hot favorite to be an Oscar winner is Mo’Nique for her performance as an abusive mother in Precious.
- Best Costume Design Nominations – not specifically a female category but past winners of the Oscar for Best Costume Design have included period dramas, which feature elaborate dresses for the ladies, such as The Duchess and Marie Antoinette. This year’s hot favorite for the Oscar is The Young Victoria, starring British actress Emily Blunt as the young British queen.
The 82nd Annual Academy Awards is scheduled to be shown on the ABC network in the U.S.
