Today is International Women’s Day; International Women’s Day is celebrated on the 8th of March each year.  Intially a political event, today International Women’s Day is basically a celebration of the achievements of women around the world socially, economically and politically.

International Women’s Day was first celebrated in 1911; International Women’s Day is often used as a reminder of the hardships thousands of women still face in the world today through war, health, discrimination, violence, poverty and intimidation.

Women (and children) are usually the most vunerable members of society – yet in many places in the world they are key to the survival of communities, a fact recognised by the organization CARE.  There are also many other charities and organizations which have been set up to help women; successful women celebrities often help to promote these charities, using their power and status to influence decision makers.  Some of these women have endured hardships in their own lives too.

So, no matter who you are or where you are in the world, celebrate International Women’s Day – for your achievements and future achievements! And on International Women’s Day remember that some women may not be as fortunate as you…
