Prescription drugs, because they are “prescribed”, are not thought of as “dangerous” – yet in pregnancy many prescription drugs can be just that. In addition, over-the-counter drugs, such as advil and aleve, can cause complications in pregnancy.
Although the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) “rate” drugs according to research data available, most drugs have not been tested on human mothers but instead have been tested on animal mothers, so there is a chance that the predicted outcome may not be the same.
