A couple of months ago, we took a trip to Las Vegas which involved crossing over the Hoover Dam on the Arizona-Nevada state line.  In a few months time this will no longer be possible because the new Hoover Dam Bridge bypass will be the main route for traffic crossing the state line; the road over the Hoover Dam will only be open to visitors actually visiting the dam.

It was three years since we last visited Las Vegas and the Hoover Dam Bridge was just in the early stages of construction.  This time, it was more or less complete and the bridge towers above the now seemingly insignificant Hoover Dam, although the Hoover Dam itself is on the Top 10 Construction Achievements of the 2oth Century.

My husband isn’t very keen on the idea of crossing the Hoover Dam Bridge which stands at 900 feet above the Colorado river – but the next time we visit Las Vegas it will be the only way across the state line  -unless the idea of a tour of the Hoover Dam suddenly becomes appealing! :)
