A new survey conducted by Hart Research Associates on behalf of the Citigroup indicates that women are more optimistic than men about the economy – and are also more optimistic than men about their own financial situation.  Apparently 20 per cent of wives now outearn their husbands and many more wives are becoming sole and co-breadwinners.

Add in the fact that a lot of women work full-time, manage childcare and household chores – in addition to managing the monthly budget – and it would seem that women should have more to be depressed about then men!  Most women have more full time responsibilities than men as the “traditional” role of a stay-at-home mom changes – but many men are not picking up the slack at home :)

Women still have a long way to go in the workplace but it is said that more women than men are now attending college and more women are moving into managment positions than before.

The result?  66 per cent of women are more optimistic about their financial position in the next 12 months compared to 60 per cent of men, although 63 per cent of women believed that it would take at least two to three years for the economy to stabalize.  In addition, young women are more optimistic than older women.  However, more men than women have lost jobs in the current economic crisis because of the traditional division of labor roles.  Perhaps some of the optimism about the future of the economy can be accredited to the fact that, in general, women are more long term planners than men…. :)
