Former Victoria’s Secret supermodel, Gisele Bundchen, has hit the headlines with a statement she made in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar (U.K.) for the September 2010 issue. Gisele Bundchen is quoted as saying:
“I think there should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months.”
The controversial statement, however, was made after Gisele Bundchen herself allegedly only breastfed baby Benjamin, born in December 2009, for 3 weeks.
A lot of new moms in the United States are criticized for not breastfeeding their babies. Some make a “fashion choice”, given the pressure on today’s new moms to look “good” all the time; others do not breastfeed for medical reasons. Either way, in a country where “free speech” is practiced, Gisele Bundchen’s statement is perhaps a little extreme in her requirement to force new moms, by law, to breastfeed…
