The 2010 Miss Universe fashion pageant is held on Monday August 23, 2010 and, like many other fashion pageants, has already received criticism over “strategic” advertising.  Everyone knows that controversy attracts attention and although the Miss Universe organizers are trying to promote the latest “controversial” advertising as simply “fashion”, is it more than this?

The 2010 Miss Universe fashion pageant is appropriately being held at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, A.K.A “Sin City.”  “Less” has always been “more” in the fashion world, with fashion models routinely competing in bikinis and lingerie on the fashion catwalks.  However, this time the contestants for the title of Miss Universe 2010 actually posed in less – with strategic “body paint” artistically covering their “vital” parts.  Although much of the artwork appears beautiful, and as someone who has body artwork of her own in the form of a tattoo, I can appreciate the intention.  However, is this the right place to promote such work and perhaps putting pressure on contestants to “conform”?  Are fashion pageants going one step too far by expecting the contestants to literally appear topless?

You can decide for yourself by viewing the video below of the body paint on some of the 2010 Miss Universe contestants :)
