Studies show that, on average, women live longer than men.  Women also suffer from a number of diseases and illnesses that men don’t suffer from, or are less likely to do so.  So it only makes sense that women should be looking after their long term health care by using preventive health care services.  However, if you are a woman who receives Medicare, you may entitled to some of these health care services for free – or at a reduced cost.

Medicare is the largest health insurance program in the United States; generally, you have to be aged 65 or over to qualify, but there are some instances in which women can receive Medicare under 65 years of age.

Preventive health care includes such services as:

  • mammograms
  • diabetes testing
  • pap tests and pelvic exams
  • tests for risk of fractures from diseases such as osteoporosis
  • flu shots.
