There has been a lot of hype about the Stieg Larsson novel, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. However, fans of the book will have to wait until December 2011 to see the movie version of the novel. Stieg Larsson, a Swedish journalist, actually died in 2004 and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was not published until after his death in 2005. The novel is part of a trilogy, the third of which, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, was just recently published in the United States.
The movie of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo stars Rooney Mara, as Lisbeth Salander, in the lead role; Rooney Mara is a relatively unknown actress who beat other more well known actresses to take the role. More well known names in the movie industry, such as Daniel Craig and Robin Wright, also star in the movie. However, you may recognize Rooney’s surname – she is the younger sister of actress Kate Mara, who starred in Brokeback Mountain (2005), among other features.
Filming for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo will soon begin in Stockhom, Sweden. In the meantime, I may just have to catch up on my reading to make sure I’m ready for the December 2011 movie release date
Editor’s Note: This is the Hollywood movie release date, not the original Swedish movie.
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is available for purchase at Amazon.
