Singer and actress Beyonce, 29, revealed to the world on Sunday night (August 28th 2011) at MTV’s Video Music Awards that she was expecting her first baby with hubbie Jay-Z; the news sparked a new twitter record. In case there was any doubt that we really do tweet and facebook about every little detail of our own lives, and that of others, through social media networks, the news that Beyonce was pregnant got more tweets than ever before.
Twitter Goes Crazy Over Beyonce’s Baby Bump
According to MSN, Twitter got 8,868 Beyonce-related tweets per second, the highest number ever recorded for a single event; apparently baby gossip about Beyonce was what people wanted to know about on Sunday night. It was no secret that Beyonce wanted to get pregnant before her 30th birthday; Beyonce told Piers Morgan in June that:
“…I feel like 30 is the ideal age (to start a family), because you are mature enough to know who you are and to have your boundaries and your standards, and not be afraid, too polite – but you’re young enough to be a young woman.”
According to the Huffington Post, Beyonce is five months pregnant, meaning that her baby should be due sometime around Christmas and the New Year. Congratulations Beyonce!
